Who is your current employer and where is your office based?
I work for Beijing Qi Xia Real Estate Development as a Deputy Contracts Manager; in Beijing, China.

What got you interested in surveying?
I have always been interested in property and construction. For me it was my uncle’s success in the construction industry that influenced me to get involved in property.

Which university did you attend, what course did you study?
After studying at Singapore Polytechnic for a Diploma in Building and Property Management I attended the College of Estate Management in the UK ­ Diploma in Surveying (QS).
I am currently studying for an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration at Robert Gordon University in the UK.

What do you enjoy most about your career in surveying?
My job as Contracts Manager is diverse and interesting. My main role is to resolve contractual disputes. This takes excellent communication skills and an understanding of the issues involved. It is vital to remain objective at all times and assess the situation from a number of different angles. I find every project a real challenge and I enjoy my work.

What interesting projects have you been involved in while as surveyor?
Apart from various alteration and additions works to existing buildings in Singapore, I have been involved in projects in the Maldives.
The Maldives is an amazing place to work and surveying provided me with the opportunity to work there!

What are your future career ambitions?
After completing my MSc my main ambition is to become a reputable legal advisor in construction industry.

What does RICS mean to you?
RICS is the recognised global qualification for property and construction. Along with recognition as a professional it also serves as an international passport to me in my career.
