The University of Aberdeen offers the academic strength you would expect from a 500 year old university with over 590 first degree programmes that are recognised worldwide. At postgraduate level we offer over 100 one-year taught masters programmes and a range of research opportunities. Four Nobel prizes have been awarded for work begun, or carried out at the University.
Property Group
The Property Group at Aberdeen has a well-established national and international reputation for high quality research and innovative degree programmes. In the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), the quality of the group’s real estate research was ranked first equal in Scotland, with 60% classed as either world-leading or internationally excellent. The Property Group is an intrinsic part of the Business School and collaborates with colleagues in Accountancy-Finance, Economics and Management with regard to both research and teaching. Our students benefit from well-resourced libraries and IT facilities, and participate in property inspections and field trips during the degree. Graduates have an excellent track record of employment in the property sector, with many being recruited by the leading property service firms to undertake their professional training, culminating in full membership of the RICS.
MA courses
The MA courses in Real Estate are four year undergraduate degree programmes. There is an emphasis on flexibility and choice throughout the first two years, but they also involve study of core subjects relevant to understanding the built environment, including economics, property valuation, investment, property law and construction. Our joint degrees offer the possibility of advanced study in both Real Estate and another, complementary Business School subject.
MSc / MBA courses
The MSc / MBA courses are one year postgraduate conversion programmes and are suitable for applicants whose first degree was in a subject unrelated to real estate. All of these programmes cover the core areas of knowledge required for entry professional training. The MBA route incorporates courses in business management, whilst the MSc in Real Estate Finance includes specialist courses in finance alongside courses in real estate. The MSc in International Real Estate Markets involves overseas study during the final three months of the programme. Overseas options currently available are: an in-depth study tour of five Asian real estate markets with field work/study in Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo; or exchanges with Real Estate departments in San Diego (SDSU) or Stockholm (KTH).
Note: programme names containing “Property” are changing to “Real Estate” for entrants from 2011/2012.
