BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management

The BSc Real Estate Management programme is an internationally recognised programme designed to provide an in-depth education for the property professional. This three-year degree provides a general real estate education. The focus of the BSc is on helping to develop both a theoretical and a practical base to real estate knowledge. This is achieved through study of real estate as a physical, legal, financial, social and political asset.

MSc Real Estate (International, Commercial or Residential)

The MSc Real Estate (International, Commercial or Residential) programme, previously known as Real Estate Management/International Real Estate, is one degree with three distinct pathways. These are Commercial Real Estate, Residential Real Estate and International Real Estate. All three pathways are viewed as a single cohort. UK students are encouraged to follow any of the pathways whereas international students are advised to follow the International pathway. The MSc Real Estate (International, Commercial or Residential) programme is available for full-time study only.

The MSc Real Estate, although grounded in academic excellence, is a practice-based programme for students wishing to become chartered surveyors. It has established itself as a premier postgraduate programme for students wishing to enter the property profession, and it meets the strong demand from the real estate profession for high-calibre postgraduate students from varying backgrounds both in the UK and abroad.

This is a non-cognate conversion programme that is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). It will prepare you for the challenges of entering professional practice and completing the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to become a chartered surveyor.

Applicants should hold a good honours degree, or its equivalent, in a non-cognate discipline.

MSc Project Management in the Built Environment

This programme accommodates the needs of those recently engaged in built environment employment (a buoyant, dynamic sector) from cognate and non-cognate disciplines. It covers more than just ‘construction project management’ and includes numerous types of project and the overall process of realising ideas. Distance learning (in a modern web-harnessing form) allows those working in the UK and elsewhere to participate and collaborate, while minimising costs.

Novel features include problem-based learning (PBL) with input from professionals and use of a ‘virtual learning environment’; also use of facilities such as collaborative writing tools (e.g. ‘wikis’), social learning spaces and email discussion groups. Periodic online ‘quizzes’ foster engagement alongside more conventional assessment methods (coursework only).

PBL is effective, more stimulating than traditional approaches and develops vital skills. It’s real-world focussed - not ‘academic’.
