What do we collect and use personal information for?
In order to:
- Control access to restricted member areas of this site;
- Process orders or applications submitted by you;
- Customise the service we provide to you;
- Administer your membership or otherwise carry out our obligations in relation to any agreement you have with us;
- Verify your identity
- Anticipate and resolve problems with any goods or services supplied to you;
- Carry out market research and tracking of sales data;
- Provide you with necessary communications such as EGM notices;
- Consult with you on membership related issues (e.g. Regulatory re-write)
- Send you news and information about events, publications and services;
- Administer professional conduct issues;
- Monitor CPD compliance.
Although we do not make it compulsory to give us every item of information we ask for, the more information you volunteer (and the more accurate it is), the better we can tailor our services to your specific requirements.
We also collect information from you where you choose to take part in any of our surveys. We use this information to help us formulate member services and plan promotional campaigns..
Certain RICS services, such as the RICS Directory, are outsourced, and where this is the case, your information will necessarily be shared with our business partners.
Please note that certain services may be unavailable to you if you do not want to disclose the personal information you are asked for (e.g Find a Surveyor).
Log files and IP addresses
When you visit our Site, we automatically log your IP address (the unique address which identifies your computer on the internet) which is automatically recognised by our web server. We use IP addresses to help us administer the Site and collect broad demographic information for aggregate use. Anonymous user data is collected on a monthly basis for us by WebtraffiQ (www.webtraffiq.com
Non personal information
We may automatically collect non-personal information about you such as the type of internet browsers you may use or the site from which you linked to our Sites. You cannot be identified from this information and it is only used to assist us in providing an effective service from our Sites.
We may from time to time supply the owners or operators of third party sites from which it is possible to link to our Sites with information relating to the number of users linking to our Sites from their sites. You cannot be identified from this information.
Information placed on your computer
We may store some information (commonly known as a "cookie") on your computer when you look at our Sites.
This information facilitates your use of our Sites and helps us to provide you with the best level of service. For example, cookies ensure that you do not need to re-enter your details every time you order from us or visit our restricted member access site and help us to show you advertisements which are relevant to your interests.
You can erase or block cookies from your computer if you want to (your help screen or manual should tell you how to do this), but certain RICS services may not work correctly or at all if you set your browser not to accept cookies.
Disclosing your information to others
Other than the disclosures referred to here, we will not disclose any personal information without your permission unless we are legally entitled or obliged to do so (for example, if required to do so by Court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime).
Information about products and services
It is very important to us that we provide the highest level of service. In order to help us do this, from time to time, RICS companies may send you details of products and services which we think may be of interest to you.
In addition, from time to time, RICS companies may share the information you supply to us with selected third parties to enable them to send you information which may be of interest to you.
Member data may also be used to provide mailing lists to selected and relevant third party suppliers for direct marketing. These member lists are selected on the basis of professional specialisation, location, company size etc.

Keeping our records accurate
We aim to keep our information about you as accurate as possible. If you would like to review or change the details you have supplied us with, you may do so at any time by contacting us directly or where this facility is offered through one of the RICS sites. If you have another query relating to your information please contact us as set out below.
Our Sites make chat rooms, forums, message boards and/or news available to their users. Any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should always be careful when deciding to disclose your personal information to a broader audience.
The internet is not a secure medium. We have implemented current secure technology and policies to help safeguard your privacy from unauthorised access and improper use and will continue to update these measures as new technology becomes available.
Third party sites
We cannot be responsible for the privacy policies of other sites even if you access them using links from our Sites and recommend that you check the policy of each site you visit.
In addition if you linked to any of our Sites from a third party site, we cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of the owners or operators of that third party site and recommend that you check the policy of that third party site and contact its owner or operator if you have any concerns or questions.
Transferring your personal information outside the European Economic Area
As part of the services offered to you through our Site, the information you provide to us may be transferred to countries outside of the European Economic Area ("EEA"). By way of example, this may happen if any of our servers are from time to time located in a country outside of the EEA or one of our service providers is located in a country outside of the EEA.
We also share information between our National Associations, which are located in countries worldwide. These countries may not have similar data protection laws to the EEA. If we transfer your information outside of the EEA in this way, we will take steps to ensure that your privacy rights continue to be protected.

What you are not allowed to do
Except to the extent expressly set out in these terms, you are not allowed to make any copies of any part of the Site.
You may not remove or change anything on the Site except your registered details or include or create links from the Site.
You are not allowed to copy or use any material from the Site for any commercial purpose.
You may not spider or otherwise access the Site by any automated means with a view to re-using any of the content for commercial purposes.

You may not supply, sell or license material from the "Find a Surveyor" database or a copy of it, to any other person including another member of your group of companies
You must only use the Site and anything available from the Site for lawful purposes, and you must comply with all applicable laws, statutes and regulations. You must not use the Service to:
(a) send, post, upload or otherwise transmit information or pictures that are obscene or pornographic, threatening, menacing, racist, offensive, defamatory or otherwise unlawful;

(c) harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the rights of others or harm or threaten to cause harm to minors;

All intellectual property rights in any material (including data, text, photographs and other images and sound, trade marks and logos) contained in this Site are either owned by RICS or have been licensed to RICS by the rights owner(s). You are only allowed to use this Site and the material contained in the Site as set out in these terms and conditions.
Suspension, modification and termination of Service
You acknowledge that there may be periods where access to or use of the Site or pages linked to it may be limited or impossible due to changes effected to the Site by way of ongoing development and improvement.
RICS may terminate the Service immediately in the event you breach any of these terms and conditions.
